When the Dallas and Fort Worth Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) were getting ready to sponsor the Walk MS events in North Dallas and Fort Worth, they wanted to offer a product to the event attendees.
“Service Experts believed an APCO Air Purifier was the perfect product to auction off since this spring Service Experts has been promoting saving the air, and it helps destroy germs and impurities from your air that can worsen allergies and respiratory issues,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck won the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when she bid the highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first learned about the APCO a few months before when she read an article discussing the significance of indoor air quality.
“I didn’t pay much attention at the time because I didn’t comprehend its compatibility with almost any heating and air conditioning system, and assumed it was another one of those “luxuries” that was definitely not in my budget. When they were auctioning it off at Walk MS event, everyone was talking about the seriousness of good indoor air quality for MS sufferers and I immediately thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was in his 90s and had lived with COPD for over two decades. He had been on oxygen at all times for the past four years.
“The allergens in his home’s air irritated him even though I always installed the higher-priced 3M Filtrate brand of home air filters. They just didn’t help. He repeatedly caught pneumonia despite the fact that he had only left the house over the past four years to see his doctors.”
The pneumonia would constantly result in Kim’s father spending at least two months in the hospital and rehabilitation facility. Right before the Walk MS event in Dallas, Kim’s father had spent three weeks in the hospital and a few days at the rehab facility recuperating from two strings of pneumonia. After being there to see her father suffer so much, Kim determined she was willing to “roll the dice” and try to win the APCO, which would not only help her dad get some “clean” air, but the proceeds also went to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was so excited when she found out she won and planned on getting the APCO installed in her father’s residence before he was released from the rehab center. Sadly, three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father was taken home to hospice care and passed away peacefully four days later. The APCO arrived the following week.
Kim decided to have the APCO installed in her own home because her husband suffers from allergies. Shortly after it was put in, she was cooking onions and realized she couldn’t smell any odors once she was done. She’s happy to experience the long-term effects of the system.
All of us here at McKinley Heating Service Experts are keeping Kim and her family in our thoughts and prayers.
