What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

McKinley Heating Service Experts in Edmonton always tells you about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it truly mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is optional and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to McKinley Heating Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and trained technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these criteria, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for technicians. The exams are knowledge-based exams that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since McKinley Heating Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification and not refrigeration, there are only certain areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE assessment candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
