How to Troubleshoot Honeywell Thermostat Errors

Honeywell is one of the top thermostat producers, and we proudly install them on a regular basis in Edmonton. They’re long-lasting and trustworthy. Plus, Honeywell is regularly improving its technology, resulting in more features for your residence.

However, each thermostat can experience errors now and then. Due to this, we’ve put together this informative manual to run through troubleshooting. While Honeywell thermostat troubleshooting problems are rare, they do pop up.

While you can usually solve the majority of thermostat issues by yourself, they often need Expert help. Our home comfort professionals are available to help when you need us. We’re only a call away at 780-800-7092.

Let’s start the process by determining what kind of thermostat your home has.

What Model of Thermostat Do I Have?

There are three types of thermostats:

  • Manual—This is the older dial-shaped thermostat. You won’t experience error codes with this type, but it’s also the least efficient for reducing utility bills.
  • Programmable—This thermostat features a digital screen and arrows you press to determine your desired temperature. You can also use daily programs to decrease the temperature when you’re away and raise it when you come home.
  • Smart—You won’t have to set any programs on this thermostat, because it learns your schedule. It automatically raises and lowers the temperature when you or loved ones are out and about to help you save on heating and cooling expenses. You can also raise or lower the temperature anywhere on your phone or other Wi-Fi-enabled device.

As you know the majority of technologically advanced solutions, there are several problems that may happen. The majority of of these situations don’t need Expert support and are simple to fix on your own.

Common Honeywell Thermostat Troubleshooting Errors

Every Honeywell thermostat has a unique set of codes assigned to the troubles that happen.

Think how simple it can be to restore a computer by restarting it. In most situations, troubleshooting a thermostat can be just as uncomplicated.

Here are some of the most common Honeywell thermostat issues. These involve the following programmable thermostats:

Display is Blank

If the monitor is clear on your programmable thermostat, you could need to replace the batteries. If that doesn’t fix the issue or you have a smart thermostat, there might be a wiring issue.

Next, you should make sure the power is on for your furnace or air handler. Make sure the switch near the indoor system is switched “on”.

Additionally, you should confirm all furnace cabinet or air handler doors/panels are sturdily secured.

An unsecured panel may activate the safety switch, which cuts off power to the system.

Less frequently, a blank screen might indicate you should buy a new thermostat.

Heating and Cooling System Won’t Turn On

Make sure that your thermostat is on “cool” or “heat,” not “off.”

During warm weather, verify you set the thermostat lower than the room temperature. When it’s cool, make sure it’s higher. This sounds absurd, but we’ve seen it take place many times.

Make sure the power switch close to your indoor equipment is in the “on” position. You should also make sure the cabinet doors or panels are tight on your furnace cabinet or air handler. An open panel can activate the safety switch, cutting off current to the system.

Heating or cooling still won’t turn on? Make sure circuit breakers haven’t flipped and that your HVAC equipment isn’t experiencing error codes.

“Cool On” or “Heat On” is Flickering

To start, confirm your thermostat is switched to “cool” or “heat.”

Then, make sure it’s signaling the correct equipment to turn on. This is often shown by “cool on,” “heat on” or a picture.

If this phrase or the illustration is pulsing, your thermostat is in a five-minute delay mode. This mode stops your equipment from harmful short cycling. This may take place if your power is interrupted.
